He launched his career at Prudential Securities in New York City, rapidly ascending to Vice President of Investments in 2002. By 2004, he was promoted to First Vice President of Investments, and at 25, he became Senior Vice President and Investment Officer at Wachovia Securities—then the third-largest investment firm in the U.S.
During his tenure at Wachovia Securities, he expanded into real estate investments, acquiring and redeveloping nearly 400 residential units between 2004 and 2009. In 2006, he established Innovest Holdings, a financial holding company with subsidiaries specializing in broker-dealer services, online investing, real estate investment, and offshore advisory services.
Sledziejowski further broadened his ventures by co-founding MyPlace Development in 2007, a real estate firm based in Poznań, Poland. He successfully navigated the challenges of the 2008 financial crisis, showcasing his adaptability and strategic foresight.
In 2013, he co-founded Savant Strategies, an international management consulting firm. After a personal hiatus in 2016, he returned in 2021 as Vice Chairman, leading the company through expansion, diversification, and substantial revenue growth. His leadership continues to propel the firm toward success.
From Poland to the United States
Originally from Poland, Sledziejowski’s journey to success began in New York City, where his passion for finance took shape. Starting with just $800, he began trading stocks on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, growing his investment to $18,000 within three years. While his peers were focused on typical high school experiences, Roman was already immersed in stock markets, working part-time at Salomon Smith Barney.
While studying Economics at Columbia University, he worked full-time at Smith Barney, becoming the youngest licensed stockbroker in the U.S. at just 18. Before turning 21, he was already managing over $40 million in assets, setting the foundation for his distinguished financial career.
Sledziejowski’s leadership is defined by leading by example, fostering trust, and guiding organizations through periods of growth and crisis.
“I was fortunate enough to work with some exceptional people during my lifetime,” he reflects. “Most memorably, I was once part of a start-up technology venture, working alongside a brilliant entrepreneur from South Africa. In the years that followed, he built multiple highly successful businesses. What made our partnership unique was that we practically understood each other without words. A simple glance during meetings was enough to align our strategies and solutions. He was an exceptional leader, and I learned a lot from his ability to inspire and direct people toward success.”
Navigating Setbacks and Persuasion: Roman Sledziejowski’s Insights
Reflecting on his career, Sledziejowski acknowledges the inevitability of setbacks and the importance of learning from them.
“The longer I live, the more situations like this I encounter,” he shares. “Fairly recently, I misjudged both the business potential and management capabilities of a project we were deeply involved in. I became so invested in its success that I introduced trusted personal connections to support its growth. Unfortunately, due to the management team’s inexperience and poor decision-making, the project ultimately failed. It was a significant personal disappointment, especially after dedicating so much effort.”
When it comes to persuasion, Sledziejowski relies on logic and hard facts.
“I’ve always believed that logic and hard facts are the best friends of persuasive rhetoric. As long as the person on the other side is reasonable, it’s not difficult to persuade them to see things your way, provided that what you’re presenting is logical and reasonable. The only time I’ve faced challenges in this matter was when dealing with completely unreasonable people on the other end of the table.”
His strategic mindset and transparent communication style continue to play a crucial role in his ability to influence and lead effectively.
Successfully Delegating Important Tasks: Roman Sledziejowski’s Experience
Sledziejowski is a firm believer in efficient task delegation, ensuring his team operates at full capacity during critical moments.
“In our line of work, we often face a tremendous workload that needs to be addressed as soon as possible. When this occurs, it is paramount to efficiently delegate tasks, from the most basic to the most crucial,” he explains.
He recalls a pivotal moment when four of Savant Strategies’ largest clients were finalizing major transactions.
“This situation required assigning high-priority tasks—usually handled by senior partners—to junior team members. Upper management was hesitant, but it was the only way to get the work done. In the end, not only did the junior team rise to the challenge, but they also did such an outstanding job that several received meaningful promotions within the organization immediately after.”
His ability to recognize and develop talent within his team exemplifies his commitment to building strong leaders for the future.
